This Friday is our last market of the season. It’s been a great year and we’re celebrating with a Harvest Festival! As a thank you to our great community and the support you’ve shown the Farmers Market there will be free cookies and apple cider for the first 100 customers. Kids can decorate a pumpkin to take home and join in the market scavenger hunt. Adults can try for an El Elote Loco T-shirt in our corn on the cob eating contest! And we need your help in choosing the best jack-o-lantern in our vendor pumpkin carving contest. We’ll have live music so bring the family and come join the festivities!

Fresh at the Market Today
It’s pumpkin time at the Farmers Market. Come and pick your perfect pumpkin for Halloween or pumpkin pies, or pick up some of those cute little baby pumpkins for decorating. Other great fall produce at the market includes winter squash, some yummy varieties of apples including Honeycrisp and Gala and more, peaches, peppers, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, and those great local strawberries are still going strong.
Grab your umbrella and come and visit us at the market tonight!
Closing Time – Revisited
We’re staying open until 8:00 this Friday and the next. Last week we tried closing at 7:00 but it was just too early and we were having too much fun listening to some great live music. We’ll bring out the lights and keep things going until our regular 8:00 closing time. See you Friday!

Fall = Winter Squash
Spahghetti Squash with Jalepeño Cream: Sunset Magazine |
Winter squash of all varieties is abundant at the Farmers Market this time of year and it’s one of my favorite fall comfort foods. I usually keep it simple, baked with a little butter and brown sugar (and sometimes cinnamon), but last year I tried this recipe for Spaghetti Squash with Jalepeño Cream and it became an instant family favorite. Everyone you make it for will ask for the recipe, it’s that good!
For a description of squash varieties and more delicious recipes that go beyond butter and brown sugar visit this site.
And if you have a cool dry place to store some winter squash, now is a great time to stock up on your favorites grown right here in our area. Click here for tips on storing winter squash, some varieties will keep for up to six months.
Acorn, Hubbard, Spaghetti, Butternut, Banana, Sweet Meat, what’s your favorite?

Vendor Spotlight: CWT Produce & Ashland Produce
CWT Produce and Ashland Produce are Ashcraft family-run produce businesses.
Jamie and Nathan Ashcraft farm on a larger scale and grow vegetables in Sugar City. “We also manage importing our favorite, tasty fruit from the orchards in the Boise/Caldwell area. (Stuff we have a hard time growing around here.) And we run a roadside fruit stand on a daily basis (except Sunday) at our house.” Check out Jamie’s other businesses here and here .
Ashland Produce, owned by Joseph and Sharlyn, farms vegetables (and tomatoes) in Ririe. They are known for their sweet corn and in the last few years have expanded to include a variety of specialty potatoes, squash, carrots, beets, radishes, cucumbers, tomatoes, a variety of peppers and many other produce items. Ashland also hosts a roadside stand at their home.
“We believe in growing local produce to feed local people and to also have a great opportunity to ‘grow’ our kids through some of these farm experiences. Come and see us – we would love to meet you”. –The Ashcraft Family
